About the breach

In July 2025, Fibertel Argentina suffered a major data breach when approximately 2.35 million to 2.7 million customer records were leaked on the dark web forum DarkForums by a user named injectioninferno2.

What Data Was Exposed?

The leaked dataset—titled "Database Fibertel Argentina"—originated from Fibertel's internal customer, billing, or CRM systems rather than public web scraping. The exposed information includes:

• Personal details: Full names, gender, and nationality.

• Government IDs: Document numbers and CUIL (Argentine tax ID).

• Contact info: Phone numbers and email addresses.

• Physical data: Street addresses, cities, and provinces (such as Salta).

• Account details: Regional branch codes, service channels (e.g., automated debit, counter service), and ISP metadata.

Risks & Impacts

• Phishing & Targeted Scams: Threat actors can use real national ID numbers (DNI/CUIL), names, and contact details to execute convincing phone or email phishing campaigns.

• Identity Theft: The combination of full names, document IDs, and contact/address data creates elevated risks of impersonation or unauthorized service usage.

How to protect yourself

In order to protect yourself, we recommend the following:

1. Monitor your credit report for any suspicious activities. If you cannot do this yourself, make use of any service that does this on your behalf.

2. Be on the lookout for an increase in number of spam or scam calls and emails. We recommend you make use of Apps like True Caller, which can assist you in identifying any possible spam or scam calls.
