About the breach

Bouygues Telecom suffered a major cyberattack and data breach detected on August 4, 2025, which compromised personal and financial records belonging to approximately 6.4 million customer accounts (including about 5.7 million unique email addresses).

What Data Was Exposed

• Personal Information: Names, dates of birth, physical addresses, phone numbers, civil status data, and company data for corporate clients.

• Financial Details: International Bank Account Numbers (IBANs).

• What Was NOT Exposed: Account passwords and payment card numbers (credit/debit cards) remained safe and unimpacted.

Risks & Potential Consequences

• Targeted Phishing & Scams: Because attackers possess genuine personal and contact details, fraudulent emails or SMS messages (such as fake billing or delivery alerts) may look highly convincing.

• Unauthorized Direct Debits: Exposed IBANs carry a risk of fraudulent direct debit mandates or impersonation attempts where scammers pose as bank representatives.

How to protect yourself

In order to protect yourself, we recommend the following:

1. Monitor your credit report for any suspicious activities. If you cannot do this yourself, make use of any service that does this on your behalf.

2. Be on the lookout for an increase in number of spam or scam calls and emails. We recommend you make use of Apps like True Caller, which can assist you in identifying any possible spam or scam calls.

3. Be sure to monitor your bank account transactions. Ensure you receive real time notifications on any transaction.
